Ecology
Grows in deciduous forest and parks, and in herb-rich coniferous forest in southern and central Nordic region.
Similar species
Several inedible brittlegills have a red cap, but the golden-yellow coating on the gill edge and stem are good characters for Russula aurea, which is a very good edible mushroom.
