Ecology
Grows mainly on deciduous wood and standing dead or damaged deciduous trees in the southern Nordic region. Can rarely grow on conifer wood.
Notes
Good edible mushroom. Cultivated and sold as oyster mushroom in well-stocked food shops.
Similar species
May be confused with Panus conchatus, which is violet to yellow-brown, tough and inedible but not poisonous.
