Characteristics

- Cap convex to expanded, whitish to yellowish-white, with pale grey flat scales, especially towards the centre.
- Gills decurrent, white to yellowish-white.
- Stem lateral, sometimes almost central.
- Ring thin, easily falling off.

Ecology

Grows on stumps and trunks of damaged or dead deciduous trees.

Notes

Not poisonous, but also not regarded as an edible mushroom.

Similar species

The flat scales on the upper surface of the cap towards the cap centre are a character that separates the species from other large, similar oyster mushrooms.
