Very good edible mushroom, dill as a seasoning enhances the fantastic shellfish flavour.
Similar species
There are several orange to reddish-brown milkcaps, but none is as large and robust as Lactifluus volemus. The hard stem, stiff like a wine cork, the abundant latex and the distinctive smell are good characters.
Lactarius fulvissimus and L. aurantiacus are smaller and have a more brittle stem.
