Grows with oak, beech, lime and aspen in deciduous forest and parks, often on clayey and calcareous soil.
Notes
Sometimes stated as edible but has little food value.
Similar species
There are several similar orange-brown milkcaps, but none are poisonous except Lactarius helvus, which is laxative.
