– Stem white, with pronounced grooves and hollows.

Ecology

Grows on calcareous soil in deciduous forests and parks.

Notes

Edible, but must be thoroughly cooked, otherwise they can cause nausea.

White Elfin Saddle agg. is used here as a collective name for several closely related and difficult-to-separate species.

Similar species

White forms of the poisonous Gyromitra esculenta are extremely rare but can occur, but these lack the sharp grooves on the stem.
