Characteristics
Ecology
Grows in meadows and woodland edges, often near human habitation where it thrives in rich lawns, composts, and along road edges.
Notes
A delicious edible mushroom, can become somewhat soft in texture and is therefore best suited for frying or, even better, deep-frying. The fruitbodies grow relatively quickly and should be picked before the white gills and flesh change color.
Similar species
Coprinopsis atramentaria can grow in similar environments but has a gray cap and lacks recurved scales, poisonous.
