- Cap convex to expanded, dry, matt, white, often with a yellow-brown cap centre and a ribbed cap margin.
- Gills adnexed, white.
- Stem white, often brown-spotted with age.
- Flesh white, with a pungent smell of radish or cooked beetroot.
- Taste at first almost mild, soon more or less burning acrid.
