Ecology
Grows with spruce, pine, beech, and possibly oak, primarily in spruce forests but also in beech forests on calcareous soil. Mainly found in old growth forests with high conservation values.
Notes
Edible but the species is red-listed, so please leave some younger and older fruiting bodies at the site to ensure continued spore dispersal.
Similar species
Resembles a robust, lilac-colored chanterelle. It has no look-alike mushrooms due to its distinctive appearance.
