Characteristics

– Cap initially nearly globose, later convex to expanded, wrinkled, honey-yellow to beige, with a thin silver-gray frost-like coating.
– Gills adnate to adnexed, with unevenly serrated edge, light clay-brown to cinnamon-brown.
– Stem white to beige-colored, above the ring with a faint zigzag pattern.
– Ring distinct, white, often torn.

Ecology

Primarily grows in coniferous forests and is common in northern Europe, but also occurs in coniferous and mixed forests under beech further south.

Notes

Edible and tasty, but it's advisable to cut off the lower part of the stem before cooking as it becomes woody with age.
