Characteristics

- Cap bell-shaped to irregular, smooth to faintly wrinkled, olive-brown to brown.
- Cap margin free and not attached to the stem.
- Stem white to yellowish-white, somewhat granular.

Ecology

Grows on nutrient-rich soil, mainly in deciduous woodland on bare soil in the southern and central parts of the Nordic region, from late spring to early summer.

Similar species

Verpa conica has an entirely smooth or slightly wrinkled hymenium, which distinguishes it from Verpa bohemica and other morels that have distinct pits or brain-like folds on the cap.
