Characteristics

- Cap convex, brown, velvety when young, later smooth.
- Gills decurrent, yellowish-white, brown-spotted after touching and in damaged areas.
- Stem short, often offset to one side, brown and velvety.
- Flesh yellowish-white, with mild to bitter taste and neutral to sour smell.

Ecology

Grows on stumps and dead roots of pine in coniferous forest throughout the Nordic region.

Notes

Should be regarded as suspected poisonous and unsuitable for eating. Can be used for dyeing wool yarn, then giving olive-green to green colours.
