Characteristics

- Cap funnel-shaped, can become up to 30 cm wide.
- Gills decurrent, cream-coloured, dense, with anastomoses nearest the stem.
- Stem short, cream-white.

Ecology

Grows in pastures, parks and open deciduous woodland on nutrient-rich soil. Forms fairy rings.

Notes

Sometimes reported as edible, but in that case should be parboiled before cooking as it can otherwise cause nausea.

Similar species

Pseudoclitopilus rhodoleucus is a rare relative that has a pink tinge on the gills and is usually somewhat smaller in size.
