Characteristics

– Cap grey-brown to brown with a darker centre, slimy in damp weather.
– Gills distant, white, adnate to slightly decurrent.
– Stem white, slimy in damp weather, with a ring zone near the top and irregular grey-brown bands below.

Ecology

Grows with pine on calcareous soil in pine forest. Very rare. Only found a few times in Sweden, on Gotland.

Notes

Edible, but should be spared as it is very rare in the Nordic countries.

Similar species

Resembles Hygrophorus olivaceoalbus in appearance but is much larger and more robust.
