Characteristics

– Entire fruitbody distinctly orange, sometimes paler.
– Cap 1-4 cm wide, matte, sometimes finely felty, especially towards the center which is depressed to funnel-shaped.
– Cap margin often uneven, crinkled.
– Underside of the cap with decurrent and forked ridges.
– Flesh with a slightly peppery taste and chanterelle scent.

Ecology

Grows with beech in rich beech forests.

Notes

Not poisonous but should not be picked as an edible mushroom due to its rarity.

Similar species

It looks like a miniature chanterelle with an intensely orange color.
