Characteristics

- Cap convex, dark reddish-brown, slimy in wet weather.
- Tubes yellow, brownish after touching, when young covered by a yellowish veil.
- Stem reddish-brown.
- Ring white to yellowish.
- Flesh pale yellow, with mild smell and taste.

Ecology

Grows with larch and can be found throughout the Nordic region in parks and forests with larch trees.

Notes

Peel off the cap cuticle and cut away the dark part of the stem before preparation.

Similar species

Suillus grevillei var. clintonianus is only a colour variant of Suillus grevillei, which has a yellow-orange cap colour.
