Similar species
Agaricus sylvaticus are very similar but usually has a bulbous base. As a mushroom picker, you don't need to distinguish them because both are edible. However, as a beginner, you should be cautious about confusing them with Amanita species (fly agarics), which have light scales on a dark cap.
